Parking ordinance approved

Butler City Council Thursday night approved the final reading of a new ordinance that will ban commuters from parking in front of residences near the downtown.

The ordinance will go into effect in 45 days.

The city at that time will be able to fine or tow violators.

Mayor Tom Donaldson said there will be no permit needed by residents.

Instead, signs will be installed in the targeted areas. The mayor on Tuesday released a list of about 40 streets that will be included in the residential parking zone.

Donaldson said residents who see people parking vehicles in front of their homes will be permitted to report them to city police, who will investigate the claim when they have time.

Commuters found to be in violation of the ordinance will be fined $50 and could have their car towed.
