KITTANNING — Tourism in Armstrong County generates more than $90 million in direct sales.

In 2012, the total was $89.8 million. Now that figure is $91.4 million, according to the Armstrong County Tourist Bureau.

The total is broken down into categories with lodging being at $3.7 million, food and beverage at $16.5 million, retail at $13 million, recreation at $25.7, and transportation at $32.5 million.

“We have seen a lot of tourism growth in the past two years,” said Kevin Andrews, bureau director. “With trail developments throughout the county, the revitalization efforts in multiple towns, the ARDCs accomplishments in opening the locks, and many other activities, I really expect to see these numbers grow.”

Each year the state Department of Community and Economic Development funds an economic impact report of travel and tourism. The report is broken down by the regions and counties.
