$2M lotto ticket sold in Slippery Rock

Drug store sells Match 6 winner

SLIPPERY ROCK — A recent shopper at the Rite Aid pharmacy in Slippery Rock must have been feeling pretty lucky on Friday the 13th.

That’s because that shopper bought the jackpot-winning Match 6 Lotto ticket worth $2 million from the drawing on Thursday, according to a news release from the Pennsylvania Lottery.

The single ticket matching all six numbers drawn, 07-16-27-28-33-37, to win the jackpot of $2 million — less 25 percent federal withholding — was announced Friday. State and local taxes are not taken out of lottery winnings.

The Rite Aid store at 221 Grove City Road will receive a $10,000 bonus for selling the winning ticket.

Lottery officials cannot confirm the identity of the winner until the prize is claimed and the ticket is validated. Match 6 winners have one year from the drawing date to claim prizes.

At the plaza where the Rite Aid is located, Rick Garland of Slippery Rock on Friday said, “I wish I could have bought the ticket.”

Sonya Lenz of Slippery Rock is a regular customer at the store, but just does not buy many lottery tickets.

However, she said the big win is exciting.

“I don’t think that we’ve had any lottery winners like that,” Lenz said.

If the winner is a local resident, she hopes he or she uses some of the money to give back to the community.

David McDowell of Harrisville also is a regular customer at the store, but he does not play the lottery.

However, he did concede that he could use $2 million.

“Who couldn’t?” he asked.

Lauren Bottaro, a spokesman with the lottery, said there is no telling how long it will take the winner to claim the prize.

“There’s really no pattern,” she said. “It could be claimed within a week, or someone could wait until the last day.”

The lottery encourages the holder of the winning ticket to sign the back of it, call the lottery at 717-702-8146 and file a claim at lottery headquarters in Middletown, Dauphin County, or at any of its seven area offices.

Bottaro said there are also offices in Pittsburgh and Erie.

“After filling out the claim form, it usually takes about four to six weeks to receive the check,” Bottaro said.

The winnings will be paid in a lump sum.

More than 102,200 other Lottery Match 6 players also won prizes in the Thursday drawing. Those prizes range from $2 to $2,500.

In the 2013-14 fiscal year, in addition to awarding more than $35 million in prizes to Butler County winners, the lottery contributed more than $14.7 million to programs serving the county’s older residents.

Match 6 Lotto drawings are held on Monday and Thursday evenings.

Eagle staff writers Will DeShong and John Bojarski contributed to this report.
