Butler Police

3:24 p.m. Thursday — One person was hurt when a van driven by Beth A. Homa, 43, of East Butler and a car driven by Julia E. Crawford, 17, of Butler collided at Bell and CDC drives.

Michael Crawford, 47, of Butler, a passenger in the car, was taken to Butler Memorial Hospital with minor injuries. He was wearing a seat belt.

3:22 p.m. Thursday — A car driven by Kyle A. Hilfiger, 30, of Middlesex Township rear-ended another car on North Main Street near Charles Street.

Hilfiger told police he was distracted, having undergone dental work earlier in the day, and was not paying attention when he ran into the back of the other car driven by Carol A. Elias, 57, of Center Township.

Thursday — Police charged Athena Lee Tompai, 25, of Penn Township with stealing an older model Android cell phone from an apartment on Hazel Avenue. The device, valued at $40, was taken Feb. 3 or 4. Tompai is charged with theft.

9:55 p.m. Wednesday — Walter S. Kradel, 34, of West Sunbury faces a pair of charges after police found him passed out in the doorway of the Butler County Prison on South Washington Street.

Officers searched Kradel and found a hypodermic needle in his pants pocket. He is charged with possession of drug paraphernalia and public drunkenness.

Wednesday — Amanda E. Beary, 22, of East Butler was charged with drugged driving after officers found her Jan. 23 passed out behind the wheel of a Jeep at a store parking lot on Center Avenue.

Police came upon Beary after a caller reported that two women were shooting up heroin in the Jeep. Officers got there and saw two occupants, both apparently unconscious, in the locked vehicle.

Officers knocked on the window but got no immediate response from Beary or the other woman, who was not identified in court documents. The suspect eventually awakened and police noticed signs of impairment.

A later search of the vehicle turned up a baggie containing suspected marijuana and a stamp bag of suspected heroin.

Additionally, police found a suspected heroin cooker made from the bottom of a beer can, a marijuana pipe, several used syringes and other drug contraband.

Beary was taken to Butler Memorial Hospital for a blood test. Police on Wednesday received the toxicology results, which showed the presence of morphine and marijuana in her system.

She is charged with driving under the influence of a controlled substance, possession of a controlled substance and drug paraphernalia and possession of a small amount of marijuana.

State Police, Kittanning

Feb. 8 — A thief smashed the driver’s side window and stole two pairs of sunglasses from a car at the parking lot at Stiller Motorsports in Manor Township. The property, owned by an 86-year-old Indiana, Pa., man and valued at $15, was taken Feb. 7 or 8.

State Police, Mercer

2:39 p.m. Tuesday — A sport utility vehicle driven by Benjamin D. Munnell, 53, of Fredonia rear-ended a pickup truck on Route 19 at Creek Road in Springfield Township. Munnell was cited for disobeying a traffic control device. Robert E. Frisk, 65, of Mercer was driving the pickup.
