Police arrest man after 3-hour standoff
PITTSBURGH — Police have arrested a wanted man after a three-hour standoff in the city’s Perry North neighborhood.
Police say 30-year-old Calvin Brundidge barricaded himself inside an apartment at his old complex around 8 p.m. Tuesday.
SWAT officers and negotiators were called in about an hour later.
Officers used gas and a stun gun to subdue Brundidge and took him into custody around 10:45 p.m.
Police took Brundidge to Allegheny General Hospital for evaluation before jailing him.
They say he was wanted on warrants for failing to appear in court. They did not release information on any new charges.
A police spokesman says more information will be released once Brundidge is interviewed Wednesday.
Court records show he has three pending robbery cases.
Bill Cosby cancels Feb. 21 show
PITTSBURGH — Bill Cosby has canceled his Feb. 21 appearance at Pittsburgh’s Heinz Hall.
The venue, home to the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra, issued a short news release Tuesday saying the show “has been canceled by mutual agreement with Cosby’s presenter and Heinz Hall management.” No specific reason was given.
The venue’s website indicated fewer than half the available tickets had been sold for the show at the 2,676-seat venue.
The 77-year-old comedian and television star has been dogged by accusations from several women that he sexually abused or harassed them, and several of his shows have been greeted by protesters after the allegations resurfaced in recent months.
Cosby has denied wrongdoing, but hasn’t addressed the allegations during performances that have not been canceled.
Refunds will be issued for tickets to the Pittsburgh show.
Worker suspended for salting private lot
PITTSBURGH — The city has suspended a public works truck driver for a day, saying he wrongly salted a privately owned lot during bad weather on Feb. 2 and 3.
WPXI-TV video of the allegedly illegal work prompted the internal investigation and suspension.
The city says the driver is a veteran with a spotless record. The driver, who is not being named, told city officials he was helping a Kissel Moving and Storage truck get unstuck.
