Student confirmed to have tuberculosis

PITTSBURGH — Officials say a student in the Pittsburgh Public School district has been confirmed to have contracted tuberculosis.

The Allegheny County health department said the student is enrolled in Pittsburgh South Hills 6-8, but is not currently at school.

Individuals who may have been exposed are being notified, including faculty, staff and parents and family members involved. Health officials say the risk of infecting others is minimal, but they recommend that at all students of Pittsburgh South Hills receive a TB screening test.

District staff met with the faculty and staff of Pittsburgh South Hills as well as Pittsburgh Concord and Pittsburgh Brashear High School. A parent meeting is scheduled at 5:30 p.m. today in the Pittsburgh Brashear auditorium to answer questions families may have.
