Butler Police

2:56 p.m. Saturday — Krystal K. Krauchak, 26, of Butler was caught allegedly shoplifting $51.94 in clothing items at the Kmart store at Pullman Square. A search of her purse turned up drug contraband.

Police said Krauchak faces charges of misdemeanor retail theft and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Friday — A would-be thief left empty-handed but not before damaging a car in the 100 block of West Campbell Street. Police believe the suspect overnight broke the rain guard off the driver’s side door and tried to pry open the door in the failed bid to get into the car.

Damage to the vehicle is estimated at $100.

State Police, Butler

11:34 p.m. Sunday — Luana L. Morris 50, of Franklin, Venango County, drove away after she backed her car into a sport utility vehicle in the Seneca Lanes parking lot in Cranberry Township. Police cited Morris for hit-and-run.

11:58 a.m. Sunday — A dropped cigarette was blamed for a one-vehicle wreck in Mercer Township. Jacob Z. Crocker, 27, lost control of his car on Route 173 when he tried to retrieve the cigarette from the floor.

The car crashed into a utility pole just north of Reddick Lane before hitting into a tree and cattle fence. Crocker was cited for careless driving.

6:20 a.m. Saturday — One person was hurt in a one-car accident on Interstate 79 in Muddy Creek Township. The driver, Jesse N. Gavin II, 37, of Erie lost control of the car and hit a construction sign.

Gavin, who was wearing a seat belt, suffered a minor injury.

Saturday — A thief stole a 21-year-old Butler woman’s Kindle Fire HD tablet while she was at work at the JC Penney store at the Clearview Mall in Center Township. Anyone with information is asked to call police at 724-284-8100.

Saturday — Three vehicles were vandalized while parked at the Pine Glen Apartments in Slippery Rock Township. The vehicles’ taillights were smashed out sometime between 10:45 p.m. Friday and 11:30 a.m. Saturday.

8:42 a.m. Friday — A car driven by Megan N. Cravener, 20, of Slippery Rock struck a mailbox and the corner of fence post along Studebaker Road just north of Gardener Lane in Worth Township. Cravener was cited for disregarding traffic lanes.

7:38 a.m. Thursday — Tristan C. Patterson, 18, of Fenelton lost control of his vehicle while trying to pass another vehicle and spun into a guardrail on slush-covered Route 422 at Geibel Road in Summit Township. He was cited for driving too fast for conditions.

Jan. 30 — A suspected identity thief, who police did not identify, stole an unspecified amount of money after forging a 75-year-old Slippery Rock woman’s signature on a check and cashing it at a bank in Butler Commons bank in Butler Township.

The investigation into the theft between Jan. 25 and 30 continues.
