Fire guts garage in Penn Township
An accidental fire Saturday morning gutted a garage at a split-entry house on Renfrew Road in Penn Township. No one was injured but three motorcycles, a lawn tractor, tools and other property in the garage went up in flames. A 2004 Chevrolet Silverado pickup in the driveway also was destroyed, authorities said. The fire started about 11:15 a.m. while owner Robert Wearing was draining gasoline from a motorcycle he was working on. Some of the gas spilled on the floor near a kerosene heater that was on, Penn Township police said. The fuel ignited and quickly caught the garage on fire. Firefighters from Penn and Middlesex townships, Saxonburg and Meridian put out the blaze. The fire also caused heat and smoke damage to the house.
