Police officers get promotions

Cranberry Twp. board OKs move

CRANBERRY TWP — The township supervisors Thursday night promoted two members of the police department.

The supervisors approved the promotion of Cpl. Bill Ahlgren to sergeant, where he will oversee patrol activities, and the promotion of Det. Matt Irvin to sergeant, where he will oversee all investigations.

The two men have combined for more than 35 years of service with the police department. They were promoted on the recommendation of Chief Kevin Meyer, who himself was promoted to chief last week.

“I’m extremely proud of both of them and what they’ve accomplished,” Meyer said. “Both are hard workers and well-respected among their peers. I look forward to working with them in their new leadership roles.”

After approving the promotions, the supervisors voted to buy four computers for use in police cars at a total cost of $24,678.

Also, the supervisors approved buying three in-car video recording systems for $15,575.

Township manager Jerry Andree said the township’s information technology department routinely examines the equipment being used by the police department and evaluates when it’s time to upgrade to new technology.

The $40,000 spent by the supervisors represents that need to keep up with the changes in technology, Andree said.

“It’s a very methodical, careful process of evaluating and replacing,” he said. “This equipment has to be very dependable.”
