Molestation charges added
A Butler man already awaiting trial on charges that he molested a boy for nearly eight years faces 123 more counts including rape and sexual assault.
City police Tuesday filed the additional and more serious charges against 63-year-old Charles G. Petredis.
The defendant has been in the Butler County Prison since Sept. 3 when police arrested him on the initial set of nine charges.
The latest charges involve the same alleged victim, who is now in his late teens.
Butler police Capt. David Dalcamo said he filed the new charges after the boy recently provided more detail about the suspected abuse by Petredis.
The defendant’s arrest followed the victim’s allegations that he first made last summer to the Butler County Children and Youth Services agency.
The boy is not being identified due to the nature of the charges. He said he believed Petredis began sexually abusing him when he was about 10 years old and living in Butler, according to court documents.
Police suspect that the defendant assaulted the boy from June 2005 to March 2013.
Petredis threatened to kill the boy’s mother if he ever told anyone about the abuse, documents said.
Investigators on Aug. 27 interviewed the defendant, who denied any wrongdoing.
Police originally charged Petredis with indecent assault of a person less than 13 years old, child endangerment and corruption of minors, all third-degree felonies, and four other misdemeanors.
Those charges are pending in Butler County court.
Among the new charges are 61 first-degree felony counts that include rape and involuntary deviate sexual intercourse and 60 second-degree felony counts that include statutory sexual assault and sexual assault.
Petredis’ preliminary hearing on the latest charges is set for 9:15 a.m. Monday. He is in the county prison on $150,000 bail.
