Twp. mulls study

Transit options may get look as part of plan

CRANBERRY TWP — The township might spend $15,000 for a company to analyze township transit planning, a move that’s part of an overall effort to revisit the Cranberry Plan.

The Cranberry Plan, adopted in 2009, is the map used to govern the continued growth in the community. By law, Cranberry must review the plan now that it’s five years old and is required to make changes as needed.

Ron Henshaw, the director of community development for Cranberry, said that the firm Delta Development Group might be hired to do the transit study, which primarily will establish the demand for transit services.

The township supervisors on Thursday are expected to vote on the study.

According to Henshaw, the traffic study aspect is the most crucial part of the Cranberry Plan that needs reworking because so much has changed in the past five years.

“This is an integral part of the plan that has to be looked at,” he said. “The end result of what we’re doing is updating the transit study to position the township to move quickly on any transit options that might become available in the future.”

If the supervisors approve the study, Henshaw said Delta Development will develop a detailed project schedule while also doing research on prior transit policies and how they can be updated to meet current needs.

Henshaw added that township staff won’t start aggressively revisiting the Cranberry Plan until May or June, although it will be helpful to have the transit study done by then.
