Appalachian Grazing Conference set

The 2015 Appalachian Grazing Conference will held March 13 and 14 at the Waterfront hotel in Morgantown, W.Va.

The theme of this year’s event will focus on the dollar and sense of grazing and participants will be able to see live animal demonstrations and hear from America’s top leaders on grazing innovation.

The keynote speaker is Jim Gerrish, who along with his wife owns a land consulting business offering assistance to landowners interested in economic probability and grazing sustainability. Gerrish has 20 years of experience with the University of Missouri on beef forage as well as 20 years of commercial experience on with his own herd.

While at Missouri, Gerrish took the university to one of the nation’s leaders in forage system research and provided the foundation for the basic principles of management — intensive grazing.

Registrations completed before March 5 are $100 and more information, including how to register, can be found at www.grazeappalachia.org.

Andy Gaver is a conservationist with the USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service in Butler County.
