Renovations will improve safety
SAXONBURG — The borough and the Saxonburg Area Authority are renovating the front lobby of the municipal building on Main Street to improve safety.
Paul Cornetti, authority manager, said the renovations, which are estimated to cost roughly $7,000, will address potential issues.
“This initiative is based on different stories we all have seen in the news,” Cornetti said.
Among the changes will be installing bulletproof glass where the staff interacts with visitors.
“We’re looking at some cost-effective methods to provide better security in the front office,” Cornetti said.
Mary Papik, borough manager and authority controller, said the L-shaped glass already there will be removed and the wall expanded.
“That’s all going to be taken out and covered over,” she said.
Papik said surveillance cameras also will be installed.
“There will be multiple cameras installed,” she said. “We’re just not sure where yet.”
Borough council last week approved the expense. The authority board did the same last month.
