HARRISBURG — Pennsylvania Attorney General Kathleen Kane spoke defiantly Wednesday about an investigation into press leaks from her office, saying she intended to serve out her term despite a newspaper report that a grand jury has recommended criminal charges against her.

Kane told reporters outside a Farm Show event in Harrisburg that she has been disappointed by the process used to investigate her office and predicted that an independent review would find she has done nothing wrong.

“I'm very disappointed in the way that this whole process has worked, very disappointed,” Kane said.

Kane said she expected to remain in office as the state's top prosecutor.

SUNBURY — Firefighters were called Wednesday to a fire that appeared to destroy a jail.Dispatchers said the blaze was reported just after 2 p.m. at the Northumberland County Prison in Sunbury, about 50 miles north of Harrisburg.All 208 inmates were taken from the jail under heavy guard to a nearby church.Flames and thick smoke could be seen shooting through the roof of the facility. The cause of the fire was not known and there were no injuries.The jail, a stone building with castle-like parapets, was built in the late 1800s.

ALIQUIPPA — Police say a handcuffed shoplifting suspect climbed into the front of a patrol car and raced off at speeds of up to 100 mph.Center Township, Beaver County, police said Roxanne Rimer stole the cruiser from outside a Monaca Kohl’s store Wednesday night. She was arrested about 10 miles away in Aliquippa. Police said Rimer ditched the cruiser a few minutes after fleeing. They say she got a short ride from another vehicle before officers caught up with her. Rimer, 27, is charged with aggravated assault, robbery and other offenses.The cruiser sustained front end damage.
