Duke’s home streak snapped at 41
DURHAM, N.C. — Angel Rodriguez scored 24 points and Miami shot 67 percent after halftime to upset No. 4 Duke 90-74, snapping the Blue Devils’ 41-game home winning streak.
Manu Lecomte had a career-high 23 points for the Hurricanes, who dominated the final 20 minutes with their pesky defense and attacking dribble penetration that the Blue Devils just couldn’t defend.
No. 1 Kentucky rolls over Missouri
LEXINGTON, Ky. — Aaron Harrison scored 16 points including five 3-pointers, and top-ranked Kentucky finally earned a conference victory in regulation by routing Missouri 86-37.
After needing overtime to beat Mississippi and Texas A&M by nine total points, the Wildcats (16-0, 3-0 Southeastern Conference) had the overmatched Tigers (7-9, 1-2) under control by halftime with a 44-18 lead. The margin eventually reached 49 in the final minute as Kentucky rolled to its most decisive outcome since last month’s 39-point rout of UCLA.
Maccagnan hired as N.Y. Jets’ GM
NEW YORK — The New York Jets have their new general manager. Next up: a new coach.
The Jets hired former Houston Texans executive Mike Maccagnan, replacing the fired John Idzik.
Maccagnan was Houston’s director of college scouting and the only GM candidate who received a second meeting with the Jets. Maccagnan first interviewed with owner Woody Johnson and consultants Charley Casserly and Ron Wolf last Monday before having another meeting Friday and staying in New Jersey over the weekend.
New York was close to an agreement with Arizona Cardinals defensive coordinator Todd Bowles to make him their head coach, according to two people with knowledge of the negotiations.
Garrett, Cowboys agree on extension
IRVING, Texas — Dallas coach Jason Garrett fielded questions about his shaky job security for two years before breaking through with the first trip to the playoffs for the Cowboys since 2009.
Now he’s all but guaranteed to have the second-longest coaching tenure for the storied franchise behind Tom Landry.
Garrett has a new five-year contract, and defensive coordinator Rod Marinelli is also coming back on a three-year deal, a person with knowledge of both agreements told The Associated Press. Garrett will make about $6 million annually.
LeBron scores 33, but Cavs lose again
PHOENIX — LeBron James scored 33 points in his return from a two-week layoff but it wasn’t enough to prevent the Cleveland Cavaliers from losing their sixth straight, 107-100 to the Phoenix Suns.
James, who took the time off to rest his sore left foot and lower back, made 11 of 18 shots, 6 of 8 in the second half.
