The Old Stone House will have a six-course series of cooking classes beginning Saturday. The classes will begin with a basic foundation of how to light a fire using steel and flint, advancing through soup, breads and full entrees and desserts. Cost is $130. Registration is required, with class size limited to eight. The Old Stone House is at the intersection of Routes 8, 173 and 528 in Brady Township.

Harmony Museum, 218 Mercer St., Harmony, opens “The Civil War in Pennsylvania,” a Heinz History Center traveling exhibit as well as an expansion of the museum’s exhibit on the war’s influences in the county, on Saturday. The exhibit will continue through Feb. 3. Tours are offered 1 to 4 p.m. daily except when the museum is closed Mondays. Admission is $7 for adults, $6 for senior citizens, and $3 for youths ages 6 to 17. Call 724-452-7341.

Phipps Conservatory and Botanical Gardens, 700 Frank Curto Drive, concludes the winter flower show Sunday. Hours are 9:30 a.m. to 11 p.m., plus 5 to 11 p.m. for the Winter Light Garden. Heinz History Center, 1212 Smallman St., has extended “Pittsburgh’s Lost Steamboat: Treasures of the Arabia” through Sunday. An exhibition showcasing the Heinz company also continues. National Aviary, 700 Arch St., presents “Wings in Winter” daily activities through Sunday. Two African penguin chicks have newly hatched. Carnegie Science Center, North Side, reminds residents to make a snowball and save it in the freezer until June 21, the summer solstice, when visitors who bring it still frozen to the center can choose their own admission price and launch their snowballs into the Ohio River. Regular general admission is $18.95 for adults and $11.95 for children ages 3 to 12. Center hours are 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturdays and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sundays through Fridays. Children’s Museum, 10 Children’s Way, Allegheny Square, hosts the exhibit “Bounce: Inspired by the World’s Most Amazing Ball!” and, through Feb. 1, the annual Tough Art exhibit.
