11:45 a.m. Tuesday — Wayne Edwards Sr., 56, of Butler was arrested on charges he menaced an employee at the Grapevine Center with a screwdriver.Police were called to the facility on North Elm Street after Edwards allegedly threatened to stab the worker, a 43-year-old Butler man, with what initially was reported as an ice pick. The suspect had made his getaway on a bicycle before police got there.Officers, however, caught the suspect a short time later on East Jefferson Street. He was searched and found with a straight-edge screwdriver as well as a small bag of suspected marijuana and drug contraband.Edwards was placed in the Butler County Prison to await arraignment on charges of terroristic threats, simple assault, and possession of a small amount of marijuana and drug paraphernalia.11:27 p.m. Monday — Brian J. Vlassich, 34, of Butler was arrested after allegedly assaulting his 15-year-old niece, and mother, 63-year-old Linda Smith, during a domestic dispute at his home in the 200 block of West Wayne Street.Vlassich is accused of punching the girl in the face, grabbing her by the throat and throwing her to the ground, according to court documents. He also punched Smith in the stomach, slapped her face and pushed her, police said.The defendant, who is charged with simple assault, is in the Butler County Prison on $3,000 bail.Monday — Police charged Zane P. Eury, 25, of Butler in connection with a suspected heroin overdose about 11 a.m. Dec. 21 at his girlfriend's house on North Ninth Avenue.Eury's girlfriend told police that she called 911 after she found him unresponsive in a bedroom, according to court documents. He was taken to Butler Memorial Hospital.The woman later checked the bedroom where she found Eury and turned up two stamp bags of suspected heroin. She took the bags to the hospital and handed them over to an emergency room nurse, documents said.Eury is charged with possession of a controlled substance.9:16 p.m. Saturday — Gordon Lee Taggart, 48, of Chicora was arrested following a domestic dispute in the 400 block of West North Street. Taggart smelled of alcohol when officers got there. He also had difficulty standing on his own, court documents said.He was taken to the police station where a search turned up three suspected prescription anti-anxiety tablets packaged in a cellophane wrapper from a cigarette pack, documents said.Taggart was placed in a holding cell where he remained until he sobered up, police said. He is charged in the case with possession of a controlled substance and public drunkenness.8:07 a.m. Saturday — A three-vehicle crash involving an ambulance occurred at East Brady Street and Hospital Way near Butler Memorial Hospital. The wreck injured two people.Police said icy conditions caused the ambulance, owned by Butler Ambulance Service and driven by Elissa C. Burk, 25, of Butler, to slide into a hospital sign on Hospital Way.Following the ambulance toward East Brady Street, two vehicles driven by Melinda L. Slupe, 45, and Danielle E. Lloyd, 22, both of Butler, slid into the ambulance.Burk and Lloyd went to Butler Memorial Hospital for evaluation of unknown injuries. All three vehicles were towed from the scene.Saturday — David A. Riker, 37, no known address, was arrested on charges he shoplifted a container of coffee creamer shortly after 8 p.m. Dec. 29 at the Family Dollar store at Pullman Square.Riker fled the store after dropping the creamer, valued at $4. Police later found him and arrested him. A check of his criminal record, according to court documents, showed two prior shoplifting convictions in New York.Riker was arraigned on a felony count of retail theft and placed in the Butler County Prison on $7,500 bail.
