Mars' Goetz reaches 1,000 in victory

Sara Getsy scored 24 points and Ali Goetz reached a milestone as the Mars girls basketball team downed Deer Lakes, 54-36, Monday night.

Goetz scored 15 points to reach 1,001 in her career. The senior was also 7-of-8 from the free throw line.

Getsy drained four 3-pointers on the way to her big night for the Planets (8-2, 5-0).

A-C Valley 52, Union 31 — The Falcons jumped out to a 17-1 lead after the first quarter and cruised to a win.

Sadie Longo and Erin Logue each scored 14 points for A-C Valley (8-2).

Longo also had 13 rebounds for the Falcons.

Union (3-7) was led by Lexey Shick, who scored 11 points.

Lucas Bowser added 13 points and Hank Murphy and Cole Morris each added 12 points for Union (6-4, 2-1).

Kody Wolfe paced A-C Valley with 12 points.

Ian Houk-Graves scored with 1:18 left in the game to lift Mars to a 3-2 victory over Montour at Robert Morris University’s Island Sports Center.

The Spartans led 2-1 entering the third period before Beau Heakins tallied the equalizer.

Paul Maust scored a first-period goal for the Planets (13-2).

Tyler Spreng stopped 14 shots for Mars.

Mt. Lebanon 3, Seneca Valley 2 (OT) — George Farrell scored his second goal of the night just 28 seconds into overtime to earn Mt. Lebanon this Class AAA win.

Alexander Crilley scored both goals for the Raiders (7-6), the second one coming late in the second period for a 2-1 edge.

The Blue Devils’ Finley Connway tied the game late in regulation.

Alyssa Peterson had 25 saves in net for SV.

Swimming

Slippery Rock’s boys captured eight of the 10 events competed for as the Rockets claimed a 54-44 win over Hickory.

In the girls’ meet, Slippery Rock’s foursome of Kayla Broad, Barbara Cessar, Mari Reott and Tabitha Donaldson earned first place in the 200 medley and 400 freestyle relays in an 88.5-80.5 loss to the Hornets.
