Transmission being blamed in accident

MUDDY CREEK TWP — A faulty transmission is being blamed for an SUV rolling over a township man in his Walker Road driveway Monday morning.

Following the accident, Bradley Galletta, 28, was flown by medical helicopter to UPMC Presbyterian hospital in the Oakland section of Pittsburgh.

He was listed in critical condition this morning.

Butler state police report Galletta and his girlfriend, whose name was unavailable, tried to stop the vehicle after it began to roll backward down the driveway headed toward a 200-foot wide pond.

Trooper James Long said at least one tire of the SUV ran over Galletta’s pelvis, not his leg as was reported in a 5:20 a.m. 911 call.

“I don’t know the extent of his injuries,” Long said.

He said Galletta was alert following the accident.

“He was talking,” Long said.

The girlfriend was not injured.

The vehicle then drifted into the pond.

“It was completely under,” Long said.

The girlfriend told police the SUV’s transmission had been acting up recently, so the vehicle must have slipped out of gear on its own.
