SLIPPERY ROCK — Borough residents will not see their property taxes increase next year.

Borough council Tuesday night passed a $1.2 million budget for 2015 with a property tax rate of 21.875 mills, with 18.71 mills for general purposes, 2 mills for street lighting and 1.165 mills for fire protection.

A mill generates $1 in revenue for every $1,000 of a property's assessed value.

The current budget is $1.1 million with the same property tax rate.

BRADY TWP — The Jennings Environmental Education Center will kick off 2015 with a First Day Hike at 1 p.m. Jan. 1.Led by Jennings staff and covering about two miles, the hike will traverse varied terrain and visit several different habitats, including the prairie, the forest, and a beaver meadow wetland.The hike is of moderate difficulty. GROVE CITY — The employees of the Farmers National Bank of Emlenton recently donated $400 to the Salvation Army in Grove City.The employees raised money through their Community Jeans Day program.Community Jeans Day is a bank-wide employee program that benefits organizations in the bank's service area.Employees are encouraged to donate each month and in return are permitted to wear jeans on Fridays.The Salvation Army Service Unit provides needy individuals and families with necessities such as food, clothing and shelter.The Salvation Army currently is promoting its Red Kettle campaign to raise money during the holiday season.
