Tuesday — Eric J. Zmijowski, 33, of Butler was charged with stealing jewelry earlier this year from an apartment in the 500 block of West Cunningham Street. Zmijowski allegedly took the property — three sterling silver rings and a silver necklace and bracelet — on Oct. 5. Police said they eventually recovered the stolen items at a gold store in Butler Township.Zmijowski later admitted taking the jewelry, valued at $1,000, during an interview with police.6:15 p.m. Thursday — Bryan R. Leonard, 30, of Butler was arrested soon after police got a call for a suspicious man looking into the windows of a house in the 300 block of North Monroe Street.A short time later, officers found Leonard, who matched the suspect's description, walking on Elm Street near Brady Street. Police searched him and found a hypodermic needle and other drug contraband, according to court documents.Additionally, officers found a screwdriver in his back pocket. Police suspect Leonard intended to use the tool for unknown criminal purposes.Leonard is charged with possession of an instrument of crime, loitering and prowling at night, and possession of drug paraphernalia.Thursday — Police charged Mario Gomez, 27, of Butler in connection with a hit-and-run crash last month.Gomez was allegedly driving a pickup truck about 9 p.m. Nov. 28 that backed into and damaged an occupied house on South Sixth Street. No one was injured.The suspect drove away but police found him and the damaged truck a short time later. He admitted to backing the vehicle into the house, according to court documents.Gomez is charged with accidents involving damage to attended property.

5:32 p.m. Sunday — Vehicles driven by Taylor M. Baldt, 27, of Mars and David Haines, 54, of Penn Township collided on Route 8 at Old Route 8. Baldt's car ended up over an embankment following the collision.Police cited Baldt for making an improper left turn and careless driving.Sunday — A would-be thief or two left empty-handed trying to steal a set of wheels off a car at Twin Willows Auto Sale on Route 8 near the CoGos store.Police believe at least two suspects arrived overnight at the business, carrying a car jack and looking to heist the wheels off a newer model Cadillac DTS in the front lot.They jacked up the car and got three of the tires off. However, police think something or someone scared them away. The suspects not only left the wheels behind but their jack, too.Police continue to investigate the attempted theft.

Sunday — An undisclosed amount of money was stolen in a burglary at AEY Plus Flooring on West Main Street. The break-in happened between 2 p.m. Saturday and 5:25 p.m. Sunday.

Dec. 3 — Police charged Billy Joe Bowser, 43, no known address, and Tabitha L. Smith, 33, of Petrolia with scheming to get a girl's prescription medication Oct. 8. The scheme included trading a cell phone, valued at $200, for the youth's Adderall.Adderall is a drug often used in the treatment of attention deficit hyperactivity disorder.Bowser accompanied the girl to a pharmacy where she picked up the medication, which the defendants allegedly shared, documents said.Bowser and Smith are both charged with drug possession and conspiracy, both felonies, and corrupting the moral of a minors, a misdemeanor.
