Man, 24, accused of aluminum theft

PENN TWP — An Allegheny County man stands accused of stealing aluminum products from a company that had fired him a week earlier.

According to court records, former co-workers recognized 24-year-old Cameron D. Stover and his pickup as he drove a load of aluminum channel posts off the property of Penn Fencing on Nov. 8.

The co-workers called police who “within minutes” located the scrap yard that had just accepted at least 84 pieces of aluminum, valued at more than $4,000, from Stover, according to court records.

Stover was arrested that day. And, court records say, police in Penn Township contacted other scrap yards and identified at least three other times Stover had sold “clean aluminum” during October.

Court records say that when interviewed by police Stover acknowledged stealing aluminum from the company at least five times between Oct. 3 and his arrest. Stover told investigators he needed the money for rent.

Stover is charged with trespassing, and four counts each of theft and receiving stolen property.

Stover on Wednesday gave up his right to have a preliminary hearing before District Judge Sue Haggerty in her Saxonburg Office.

Stover’s formal arraignment is scheduled for Dec. 23 in the Butler County Court of Common Pleas. Meantime, he remains in the Butler County Prison unable to post $10,000 unsecured bond.
