Buffalo contracts give raises
BUFFALO TWP — Township police and road crew workers have new three-year contracts with 2.5 percent pay increases each year.
The township supervisors on Wednesday approved the contracts, which are retroactive to Jan. 1 and end Dec. 31, 2016.
The police contract covers five full-time and three part-time officers belonging to the United Steel Workers union.
Under the old contract, the lieutenant post paid $28.62 an hour, the sergeant was paid $28.52 an hour, full-time officers received $27.95 an hour and part-timers got $14 an hour.
The other contract covers four road crew workers belonging to the General Teamsters Local Union 538.
Under the old terms, the roadmaster received $26.77 an hour while laborers received $25.74 an hour.
In other action, the supervisors unanimously approved a conditional use for an electronic message board at Buffalo Elementary School.
The township presented a proposed 2015 budget of $2 million that does not include a property tax hike.
The supervisors are set to adopt the budget at the Dec. 10 meeting.
The 2014 budget of $1.9 million raised property taxes by 1 mill from 3.38 mills to 4.38 mills.
A mill generates $1 in property tax for each $1,000 of a property’s assessed value.
