Cranberry plans for no tax hike
CRANBERRY TWP — Officials Tuesday released a first glimpse of the 2015 township budget, a document that doesn’t include any tax increases for the third year in a row.
Manager Jerry Andree said the $24.3 million spending plan must be approved on a preliminary basis by the supervisors Nov. 19. They will consider final adoption of the budget in December.
The property tax rate will remain at 13 mills, with 8 for the general fund. There will be 2.12 mills for the fire company, one mill for the library, one mill for township buildings and .85 mills for road equipment.
The preliminary budget includes $5.5 million for the public safety department, a $200,000 increase over this year.
Andree said the increase will be used partly to hire two new officers who will replace two officers who retired this year. Both of those positions are full-time.
In addition, the township is projecting a $4.9 million budget for the public works department, an increase of nearly $200,000 over this year.
The parks and recreation department is projected to receive slightly less than $1.1 million, an increase of more than $50,000 than this year, while the Cranberry Highlands Golf Course is slated to get more than $2.2 million.
Although the preliminary numbers are all subject to change, Andree said he’s pleased with the budget his staff has put together.
“It’s a balanced budget that continues all our programs and services while following the Cranberry Plan,” he said.
