Texas man allegedly attacks Butler officer

A Texas man is jailed on charges he threatened a Butler bar owner with a knife and later attacked a city policeman.

Cody Alan Cupp, 25, of Spendora, a small town north of Houston, was drinking and allegedly intoxicated at the Brick House on North Main Street early Saturday morning when he got angry because owner Larry Goettler would no longer serve him, police said.

Goettler told officers that Cupp pulled a knife from his belt and threatened him with it, according to court documents said.

When Cupp dropped the knife, another man who had accompanied him to the bar was able to get the suspect outside. Police were called about 1:45 a.m.

Officers found Cupp a short time later. Police said he reeked of alcohol and began shouting profanities at the officers.

He was searched and found with a fixed blade knife, documents said. Police seized it and placed him in the back of their patrol car.

But once in the car, police said, Cupp began repeatedly slamming his head into the window. When Patrolman David Villotti opened the door, Cupp allegedly kicked the officer in the thigh.

Moments later, he head-butted Villotti in the mouth, documents said, prompting another officer to use a stun gun to subdue him. No injuries were reported.

Cupp was arraigned on charges of aggravated assault, simple assault, resisting arrest and public drunkenness, and placed in the Butler County Prison on $15,000 bail.
