Telephone line glitch hinders some 911 calls
BUTLER TWP — Some residents dialing the 911 Butler County emergency center from a landline were not getting through to the center Monday afternoon and evening. The problem was solved by 11:30 p.m.
The issue began after 3:30 p.m. Monday, and did not affect anyone calling from a cell phone. Rob McLafferty, a 911 coordinator, said the phone line problems stretched from the Chambersburg area to Butler.
McLafferty, a 911 coordinator, said the problem centered on a transmission line operated by CenturyLink and AT&T.
He said not all landlines were affected, and that this service interference was unrelated to a recent service outage with the 911 system.
Landline callers can call 724-282-1221 to receive 911 assistance.
