SLIPPERY ROCK — Slippery Rock University defensive lineman Marcus Martin has been named PSAC West Defensive Player of the Week.

Martin had 3.5 quarterback sacks in Saturday's 29-7 win over Edinboro. His 13 sacks for the season are a team record.

CLARION — The website d9sports.com has announced it will rename its high school football MVP award to the Jim Kelly Award to honor the East Brady native and Hall of Fame Buffalo Bills quarterback.Kelly is a 1978 graduate of East Brady, which is now part of the Karns City School District, where he threw for 3,915 career yards and 44 touchdowns and also scored more than 1,000 career points on the basketball court.

PHILADELPHIA — More than 200 former players or their families have opted out of the proposed settlement of NFL concussion claims, fewer than 1 percent of the retirees covered by the deal, according to court documents filed Monday.A filing by the claims administrator said that a total of 220 individuals — 196 former players, 22 relatives of NFL retirees and two who went unclassified — opted out by last month's deadline. Fourteen sought to opt out but submitted their requests too late.Settlement notices were sent to 25,040 players and 8,924 relatives of deceased players, the filing said.

MINNEAPOLIS — The last time the Minnesota Twins searched for a manager, Paul Molitor was in the mix. He withdrew from consideration, with the franchise's future uncertain during Major League Baseball's failed attempt to eliminate two clubs.The job didn't open for another 13 years, but this time Molitor was ready.
