BUTLER TWP — Alexis Schrecengost had 13 kills, four aces and five blocks, but the Butler County Community College volleyball team fell to Montgomery College 21-25, 25-17, 23-25, 17-25 in the Region XX/District G Tournament over the weekend.

Amanda Wensel added nine kills, Danika Durand 31 assists and Kylie Minnich 16 digs for the Pioneers, who finished the season 16-12.

Schrecengost and Durand were named first team all-Region XX.

Several local high school soccer teams will be in action in the PIAA playoffs Tuesday:• WPIAL girls Class AAA champion Seneca Valley will take on Penn-Trafford at 6:15 p.m. at North Allegheny High School.• WPIAL girls Class AA runner-up Mars will clash with Clearfield at 5 p.m. at DuBois Area High School.• District 9 girls Class A champion Karns City will square off against Shady Side Academy at 5:30 p.m. at Clarion University.• District 9 boys Class A champion Karns City will battle Vincentian Academy at 7:30 p.m. at Clarion University.

The Seneca Valley and Freeport High School volleyball teams will play in the PIAA playoffs Tuesday:• Seneca Valley will square off against McDowell at 7 p.m. at Meadville High School.• Freeport will battle Fort LeBoeuf at 7 p.m. at Cochranton High School.

Several area football teams from District 9 and District 10 will be in action this weekend:• Slippery Rock (10-0) will take on Seneca (7-3) at 7 p.m. Saturday at Slippery Rock University in a District 10 Class AA first-round game.• Moniteau (5-5) will take on host St. Marys (7-3) at 7 p.m. Friday in a District 9 Class AA semifinal game.• Union (5-5) will travel to Ridgway (9-1) at 7 p.m. Friday for a District 9 Class A first-round game.• Karns City (9-1) is idle and will play the winner of the Moniteau-St. Marys game at 7 p.m. Nov. 14 at Clarion University.

Auburn moved up a spot to No. 3 on Sunday in The Associated Press college football behind Mississippi State and Florida State ahead of a weekend stacked with Top 25 matchups.The Tigers hopped past Alabama after a 35-31 victory at Mississippi on Saturday night. Ole Miss dropped five spots to No. 12.

CINCINNATI — Lauren Hill needed just 17 seconds to make her dream come true, albeit differently than she initially imagined.The freshman forward for Division III Mount St. Joseph's made an uncontested left-handed layup for the opening basket Sunday against Hiram College. Hill has just months to live because of an inoperable brain tumor that has forced the right-hander to shoot with her left hand because the tumor has affected her coordination.
