The Katy Trail
The approximate 240-mile Katy Trail is America's largest Rails-to-Trails project and runs across the state of Missouri, from Clinton to St. Charles.
Nearly half of the trail follows the Lewis and Clark route up the Missouri River.
The trail offers scenic views along river banks, farmlands, small towns and runs through Missouri's wine country.
The surface is crushed limestone and the trail is primarily flat throughout.
About 30 bed and breakfasts, 20 campgrounds and 10 bike shops can be found along the trail.
The most popular time to ride the trail is in the fall, due to the lower temperatures and fall foliage.
Touring cyclists from across the United States and other countries are frequently on the trail.
Guided tours are available. More information is available at BikeKatyTrail.com.
