10:44 p.m. Wednesday — Antonio D.L. Graham, 24, of Mount Olive, N.C., was arrested after he allegedly struck 37-year-old Mary Steele of Lyndora during an altercation at her Bessemer Avenue house. Police said Graham and Steele also pushed one another during the fracas.Graham was arraigned on charges of simple assault and harassment, and placed in the Butler County Prison on $5,000 bail. Police cited Steele for harassment.10:05 a.m. Tuesday — Michael A. Christie, 29, of East Butler lost control of his car and crashed while making a right-hand turn just before the entrance to Saw Mill Run Park. Police cited Christie for driving at an unsafe speed.
Wednesday — Three Butler County defendants were all charged with trying to cheat on drug tests last week.Scott W. Braden, 32, of Lyndora and Bryan K. Gressly, 31, of Butler, both defendants from the county's Veterans Court, were busted Oct. 2 during a random drug screening. Their probation officer caught them with an unspecified device, which contained “clean” urine, according to court documents.Crystal Gale Irwin, 32, of Donegal Township also was allegedly caught Oct. 1 by her probation officer with an unspecified device containing “clean” urine. “(Irwin) did admit to using controlled substances and that is why she provided the false sample,” documents said.Braden, Gressly and Irwin are all charged with attempting to furnish drug-free urine, a misdemeanor.
Wednesday — Rayford Arnell Allen, 52, of Butler was arrested stemming from an alleged drug deal last month at his home in the 100 block of West Brady Street.Allen is accused of selling six stamp bags of heroin to a police informant for $50 on Sept. 15, according to court documents.The defendant was arraigned on felony charges of delivery of a controlled substance and possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance, and a misdemeanor charge of possession of a controlled substance. Allen is being held in the Butler County Prison on $75,000 bail.
Oct. 3 — A cash box was stolen Oct. 2 or 3 from Positive Steps Therapy on Route 68 in Connoquenessing Township. There was no money in the box. A police report noted that $100 in currency was stolen in a previous theft at the same business. Anyone with information about the thefts is to call police at 724-284-8100.7:38 p.m. Oct. 2 — Thomas W. Krchelich, 42, of Butler was arrested for suspicion of driving under the influence at the Glassmart store on Dinnerbell Road in Jefferson Township.
4:03 p.m. Thursday — Scott A. Johns, 25, of Worthington was seriously injured in a head-on crash in Rayburn Township. The other driver, Heather M. Layhew, 41, of Templeton, also was hurt.Police said Johns was driving a car that crossed into the oncoming lane and collided with Layhew's pickup truck on Iron Bridge Road about one-half mile north of Troy Hill Road. Neither driver was wearing a seat belt.A medical helicopter flew Johns to UPMC Presbyterian hospital in Pittsburgh with a “major injury,” according to a police report. An ambulance took Layhew to ACMH Hospital in East Franklin Township with moderate injuries. The drivers' conditions were not available this morning.Police said Johns faces a ticket for driving on the wrong side of the road.
