New meeting room to open

Dan Rooney

CRANBERRY TWP — The Cranberry Public Library will host an opening event for its newly renovated Franklin Station meeting room which will feature Steelers chairman Dan Rooney.

Rooney, who also is a former U.S. Ambassador to Ireland, will be there from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Oct. 22 to talk and answer questions.

Leslie Pallotta, library director, said he will sign copies of his book, “Allegheny City: A History of Pittsburgh’s North Side,” after the event.

Pallotta said she was surprised when Rooney accepted her invitation to come, adding that she is thrilled the library landed such a high-profile celebrity.

“The Rooneys are prominent Pittsburghers, and we thought it would be really cool to get him here,” she said. “We knew it was in the middle of football season, but we thought, what the heck, all he can do is say no.”

She said anyone wanting to ask a question must submit it in advance since Rooney’s staff will vet the questions.

“It will be set up like a casual talk-show style format,” Pallotta said.

Anyone interested in attending can register online.

The new room can hold 120 people, she said, but a number of spots at the opening are reserved for township officials.

There are about 40 openings available.
