BUTLER TWP — The Penn State Cooperative Extension will have a natural gas workshop, “Making Sense of Natural Gas Pipelines and Right-of-Way Agreements” from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Oct. 21 at the Butler Township Park Building, 468 Duffy Rd.

Dan Brockett, Penn State Extension Marcellus education team educator, and attorney Kris Vanderman of Vanderman Law will discuss the types of pipeline, the construction process, pipeline safety, reducing pipeline impacts, making sense of right of way agreements, and understanding the eminent domain process.

To get natural gas to market, gas companies are building pipelines across Butler County. Because of this, landowners may be approached by these companies regarding pipeline agreements.

A Butler Township citizens group will host an informational meeting about a natural gas well pad at the Krendale Golf Course and its concerns with the well's proximity to homes, businesses, health care facilities and Northwest Elementary School.The meeting is 1 p.m. Saturday at the Butler Public Library, 218 N. McKean St.The meeting is being held by a group of about 15 residents “very informally organized” under the name Section 27 Alliance, said Sam Hoszwa, one of the members.The group's ultimate goal is to convince township officials to rewrite the zoning ordinance to forbid oil and gas drilling on property that is zoned residential or commercial, Hoszwa said.“We will attempt to explore our legal options ... that's all I can really,” Hoszwa said.For more information, visit the website at Section27Alliance.com.Section 27 Alliance comes from that section of the state constitution that deals with environmental issues.

There will be a rally for cleaner and sustainable energy at 2 p.m. Oct. 11 in Diamond Park on Main Street.It is sponsored by Marcellus Outreach Butler, MOB.This rally is part of the national Great March for Climate Action that started March 1 in Los Angeles to focus on moving America from fossil fuel energy to clean renewable energy.Marchers are walking across the United States to educate the public on the issue of climate change.They will arrive in Western Pennsylvania on Oct. 10 and will join the Butler rally the next day.
