City residents may begin disposing of leaves in a designated area at Memorial Park starting Oct. 11.

Signs will direct residents to the area, which will be open 8 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Monday through Friday, and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on weekends.

The area will be open through November.

Leaves will be added to an existing compost area and must be removed from plastic bags.

No materials other than leaves are to be left in the drop area. Dumping of brush, rubbish, and garbage is prohibited.

Curbside collection service is provided by the city streets department. Residents can call the department at 724-285-8440 when all leaves have fallen in their neighborhood or for information.

Any resident who intends on burning leaves on private property must contact the city fire chief at 724-283-3100 for instructions.
