Historical society part of Arts Day of Giving
The Butler County Historical Society will participate in the Arts Day of Giving on Thursday.
The event, sponsored by the Greater Pittsburgh Arts Council and the Pittsburgh Foundation, will be from 6 a.m. to midnight Thursday.
People can donate to the society and regional art organizations, and the Pittsburgh Foundation will partially match the donations.
The society will use donations for three buildings at Cooper Cabin that require new roofs and the capped chimneys to keep the raccoons out of the buildings.
The spinning house and spring house there have recently had some areas where the wood shingles have deteriorated and must be replaced.
Donations must be made through Visa or MasterCard credit cards via www.pittsburghgives.org during the 18-hour period.
Donations between $15 and $1,000 made between 6 a.m. and midnight will be partially matched.
The society participated in the Arts Day of Giving in May 2011.
The proceeds from that allowed the front porch of the Senator Walter Lowrie House to be replaced, the windows to be reglazed, exterior windowsills to be replaced and exterior painting to be done.
