Child endangerment charges filed
A Butler mother was drunk and passed out at her home while her young child wandered alone outside wearing only a diaper, city police said.
The suspect, Katrina R. Williams, 30, also forgot to pick up her two older children, who returned home from school on their own that day last week to find her helplessly intoxicated, according to a police report.
Police on Monday charged Williams with three counts of child endangerment.
A postal carrier was on the job about 3:45 p.m. Sept. 16 when he spotted a young child running unsupervised in the 300 block of Virginia Avenue. Police were called and found the 3-year-old boy wearing nothing but a dirty diaper.
The tot’s left eyebrow was swollen and it had a small cut. The postal carrier told police that the child suffered the minor injuries playing with a small dog.
The child led officers to his home nearby. Police said the back door was wide open. Officers found Williams unresponsive on the kitchen floor.
Police described the woman as “extremely intoxicated.”
While officers were there, her two other children, ages 6 and 10, showed up.
Police said the older child asked about his mother’s whereabouts since she was supposed to pick up him and his sibling at school.
Williams was taken to Butler Memorial Hospital for treatment. Butler County Children and Youth Services representatives took custody of the suspect’s children.
