Main Street paving set for completion

Paving on the northern end of Main Street in Butler is to be done by the end of the month.

Crews from Shields Asphalt Paving of Valencia began milling the road this week and have a section of that road paved.

Bob Skrak, the Butler County maintenance manager for the state Department of Transportation, said the road will be paved to the first traffic light in the city. The work is being done at night.

While the northern end of Route 8 in the city is to be paved, the southern section of the road, spanning from the Gen. Richard Butler Bridge to near the bottom of Armco Hill, will not be done until next summer.

Skrak said PennDOT had wanted to have both sides of the road paved this year, but delays have postponed the southern project.

Skrak said an increase in paving projects across the state due to additional road projects funded by state Act 89 has pushed back some work.

The contract was bid to have the road paved within two years.
