Agnes L. Smutney

Agnes L. Smutney, 86, of Canonsburg, formerly of Cooperstown, Middlesex Township, passed away Saturday in her home surrounded by her family.

She was born on Dec. 18, 1927, in Butler, a daughter of the late Paul and Emma Petrovan Prusnak.

Mrs. Smutney was a member of St. Patrick Roman Catholic Church in Canonsburg, where she was also a member of the Christian Mothers.

She was an avid sports fan who enjoyed watching the Penguins and Steelers. She loved Pirates baseball and especially loved spending time with her family. She also enjoyed sewing, knitting and crocheting.

Mrs. Smutney was a dedicated homemaker and also worked as a teacher's aide for the Intermediate Unit 1.

Surviving are her husband of 64 years, Francis Smutney of Canonsburg; her four sons, Michael Smutney and his wife, Vicki, of Diamond Bar, Calif., and Thomas Smutney and his wife, Barbara, Paul Smutney and his wife, Kristine, and Patrick Smutney, all of Canonsburg; her two daughters, Mary Lou Cunic and her husband, Dan, and Jeanne Russo, and her husband, Rich, all of Canonsburg; her five sisters, Mary Veccharella, Helen Portfilio, Florence Danner, Josephine Monteleone, and Kathy Cervone; her 12 grandchildren, Ryan Smutney, Leslie (Kris) Wagstaff, Christian (Mona) Cunic, Melissa (Shon) Worner, Jocelyn Cunic, Bradley (Kristen) Cunic, Abigail Smutney, Hayden Smutney, Megan Smutney, Emily Smutney, Nicholas Smutney, and Matthew Smutney; her two great-grandchildren, Ava Worner and Charlotte Worner, and several nieces and nephews.

Smutney — The friends of Agnes L. Smutney, who passed away Saturday, Aug. 16, 2014, will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday and from 2 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at theSollon Funeral Home, 30 E. College St., Canonsburg.A Mass of Christian burial will be held in St. Patrick Church at a time to be announced, followed by burial in St. Patrick Cemetery, Canonsburg.The family suggests memorial contributions be made to Amedisys Hospice, 275 Meadowlands Blvd. Washington, PA 15301.Please visit www.sollon.com for additional information and to leave online condolences.
