Fire fund grows

CRANBERRY TWP — Chris Camp, owner of the Fun Fore All amusement park, this week donated $4,300 to the Cranberry Township Community Chest’s 2015 Project of the Year.

The project is a $500,000 initiative to recruit and retain more volunteer firefighters in Butler County.

The fundraising goal includes $130,000 to buy an emergency trailer to be used in training, education and recruitment, while the rest of the money will go to establish scholarships at the Butler County Community College.

Students are eligible for the scholarships as long as they make a two-year commitment to serve with a volunteer fire company.

The donation from Fun Fore All brings the total to $273,142 in just under two months.

Bruce Mazzoni, treasurer of the Community Chest, said that he’s thrilled with the fundraising.

The Community Chest plans at the end of September to roll out a marketing plan designed to increase awareness of the project, which could boost fundraising numbers.

But Mazzoni said he’s pleased that the Community Chest is already halfway toward its goal.

“This has been a great beginning to help promote the project,” he said.

Mazzoni thanked Camp, who donated $1 from every round of miniature golf played at Fun Fore All from July 10 to Aug. 31.

“He’s always been an awesome community member, helping out with all of our projects,” Mazzoni said.

Camp said he jumps at the chance to give back to the community, especially with a project that is countywide like the firefighter initiative.

“This is something that benefits all of us with the volunteer firefighter project,” he said. “We had looked into getting involved before on the issue but then this came along and it was perfect timing for us to jump on board and help out.”
