Early plans OK'd

Grocery store may be built

CRANBERRY TWP — The township supervisors Thursday night approved a preliminary land development application for a project that might include a grocery store on Route 19.

Called the Marketplace at Cranberry, the project will be on 12 acres on the east side of Route 19 and the south side of North Boundary Road.

Preliminary plans include a 60,000 square-foot grocery story, although the developers haven’t named a tenant for the building.

The project could also include 13,000- and 10,000-square-foot facilities, while a traffic roundabout would be built along North Boundary Road.

Ron Henshaw, the director of community development for the township, said the developer now will be able to move dirt at the site because he was granted a preliminary land application.

However, building construction cannot start without further township approval, he said.

Developer Dominic Gigliotti owns both the site and land across Route 19 next to the auto auction and the 7-Eleven gas station.

Crews are expected to move about 12 acres worth of dirt from the second site across Route 19 to the first site to fill in the land there.

Henshaw said crews will now be able to move dirt at both sites.
