Man accused of molestation

Teen says assault started in 2005

Butler police Wednesday arrested a 63-year-old man on charges he molested a boy for more than seven years.

The suspect, Charles G. Petredis, who has no known address, is being held in the Butler County Prison on $75,000 bail.

Police began investigating the case Aug. 25 after the boy, now 17, first reported the allegations to the Butler County Children and Youth Services agency.

The teen, who is not being identified due to the nature of the charges, said he believed Petredis began sexually abusing him when he was about 10 years old and living in Butler, according to court documents.

Police allege that the defendant inappropriately touched the boy from June 2005 to March 2013.

The accuser advised investigators that Petredis threatened to kill the boy’s mother if he ever told anyone about the abuse, documents said.

Police on Aug. 27 interviewed Petredis, who denied any wrongdoing.

District Judge Pete Shaffer arraigned the defendant on felony charges of indecent assault of a person less than 13 years old, child endangerment and corruption of minors.

He also is charged with misdemeanor counts of indecent assault and corruption of minors. A preliminary hearing was not immediately scheduled.

Butler County Court records, meanwhile, showed that Petredis is currently on probation in connection with an unrelated criminal case.

Butler police in that case accused him of running naked down a hallway at the Terrace Apartments in November 2013.

He eventually pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor charge of disorderly conduct, and was sentenced May 15 to one year on probation.
