Dollar General eyes site
BUTLER TWP — Dollar General is eyeing a Route 68 property as a possible store location.
Developer Bob Gage told the township planning commission Monday night that the company wants to build a 9,100-square foot store on a 1.36-acre lot at 521 Evans City Road.
A farmhouse at the site would be demolished.
If built, the store would be the company’s “standard prototype” and employ all local people, said Gage of the Tennessee-based GBT Realty Corp.
The planning commission voted to recommend that the township commissioners approve the project at their Sept. 15 meeting.
However, the planning commission did discuss concerns about traffic, and planning commissioner Ernest Oesterling took issue with the company’s plans to have only 33 parking spots. This type of development calls for more, but the developer successfully got special permission for the reduction last month from the township zoning hearing board.
If final approvals are given, Gage said construction would begin in the spring and the store would be completed within 120 days.
