Contract awarded for water line work
The Butler County commissioners Wednesday awarded a $131,975 contract to David G. Martin Co. of Pittsburgh to replace a water line along Route 68 in Chicora.
The project is mainly funded by the borough’s Community Development Block Grant money.
The borough pays $13,000 of the total contract along with engineering costs for the project.
The Pittsburgh contractor submitted the lowest of nine bids.
The commissioners also approved reducing the number of payphones on county property.
Six of nine payphones will be removed. The remaining three are in the government center lobby, Alameda Park and Alameda Pool.
Among the phones being removed is the one in the county prison lobby.
The move saves the county money. CenturyLink Public Communications is increasing the monthly fee to have the payphones from $35 to $50.
According to county officials, the use of payphones has significantly decreased with the proliferation of cell phones.
