Adams Township to celebrate Sept. 6
ADAMS TWP — Adams Township Community Day will be Sept. 6 at the Community Park along Valencia Road. The event has been held in September every year since 1999.
The Herb Kaufman Memorial 5K race will kick off the event at 9 a.m. Runners will use Three Degree Road, turn left on Davidson Road, then turn around at the end of Davidson and return to the park.
The race is named for the late township supervisor Herb Kaufman, who was instrumental several years ago in merging the Mars and Valencia fire departments to create the Adams Area Fire District.
Corry Harley of the township parks and recreation committee said the events at the park will begin about noon and end at 8 p.m.
Events for children will include the Gymagic Bus, a petting zoo and inflatable bouncers, said Harley.
She said activities for adults will include bingo and a horseshoe tournament.
Free hot dogs, pulled pork sandwiches, fruit salad, ice cream, cookies and other fare will be available from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the park’s Rotary pavilion, Harley said.
The food is either donated by businesses or supplied by the township.
The event also serves as a fundraiser for Mars School District sports teams, which will have booths that feature food or games from 3 to 8 p.m.
Other nonprofit booths will include the Mars Public Library and Lizzy’s Bikes.
Harley said Community Day does not include for-profit vendors.
Entertainment will be featured from 12:30 to 8 p.m. on a stage set up in the park, she said.
The Mars Stars Jump Rope Team will kick off the afternoon of entertainment by demonstrating individual and team jump rope moves.
The Ambridge Area Steel Drummers, The hEARd Matthews Band, Evolve Dance Complex dancers, and the popular band Dizzy Woosh will round out the day’s entertainment.
