5K race to benefit project is canceled
CRANBERRY TWP — A 5K race on Labor Day to benefit the Cranberry Township Community Chest’s 2015 Project of the Year has been canceled because of low registration.
Michelle Ellery, director of marketing and communication for the Lynch Weis law firm, said the firm had teamed with the community chest to sponsor the run on Sept. 1 in Community Park.
She talked with Bruce Mazzoni, a township supervisor and treasurer of the community chest, and they decided the race wouldn’t happen.
“Bruce and I evaluated the number of preregistered runners this morning and decided that the numbers were too low to put on the race as we had envisioned,” she said Monday.
Proceeds were slated for the Project of the Year, a $500,000 initiative to recruit and retain volunteer firefighters in Butler County.
The community chest is more than half way toward reaching that $500,000 goal.
