Megan Rose, 16, of Cranberry Township won the fourth annual Miss 22 Quties Beauty Pageant for contestants with special needs.
She will participate in parades, fundraising events, community service and other activities throughout the next year.
Rusti Neeley, 14, of Valencia won Miss Congeniality.
The pageant had 22 contestants, ages 14 to 25. They performed a group dance and shared their individual talents with the audience. The contestants also answered questions from the judges during the evening gown portion of the pageant.
The pageant was originally founded to raise awareness of 22q deletion, a genetic disorder, though the pageant now includes all young people with special needs. In the future the pageant organizers hope to open a special needs resource center.
Elaine Linamen is the new president of the GFWC Intermediate League of Butler for 2014 to 2016.She has been a member of the club for 25 years and has served in many leadership roles. Linamen is a special education teacher in the Butler School District.Other club officers include Vickie White, first vice president; Jaye Young, second vice president; Cathy Wesley, recording secretary; Kim Walker, corresponding secretary; Carole Goldinger, treasurer; and Kris Bearer, assistant treasurer.The group is dedicated to community improvement and volunteers for Butler Gateway Gardens, McQuistion Elementary School life school classes, events for citizens at PARC and other activities.
The Womens Club of Southern Butler County distributed $5,725 among the Butler County Humane Society, Dogs for the Deaf, the Salvation Army, Middlesex Township Volunteer Fire Company, Glade Run Lake Conservancy, Mars Public Library, Glade Run Church, Meals on Wheels, VOICe, the Lighthouse foodbank and scholarships for Mars High School.For more information about the club, call Karin Callithen, 724-898-2672, or Becky Fritz, 724-898-1089.
