BlueSox blow lead
West Virginia plated three runs in the bottom of the seventh inning and went on to defeat visiting Butler 5-4 in Prospect League baseball action Monday evening.
The BlueSox led 4-0 entering the bottom of the second inning and still held a 4-2 edge before the Miners’ comeback, which began with Butler starter Denis Lyman on the mound.
Lyman would not figure into the decision after striking out seven, walking three and allowing three runs on six hits in 6 1/3 innings.
He was relieved by Kyle Zaorski, who was charged with the tying and go-ahead runs while working just 1/3 innings.
Butler catcher Russell Clark had two hits while Mick Fennell and Cody Herald both singled and scored in the loss.
After chasing Miners’ starter Abram Cartledge from the game after just 2 2/3 innings, the BlueSox (23-17 overall, 8-4 second half) were unable to score on a trio of relievers over the final 6 1/3 innings, including winning pitcher Dalton Thompson.
The Miners, who lead the East Division’s second-half standings with an 8-3 record, host Butler at 7:05 p.m. today.
