Mars graduate is Butler Fair Queen
PROSPECT — Hannah Govan, 17, was named 2014 Fair Queen for the Big Butler Fair and crowned by the 2013 Butler Fair Queen, Julie Worst.
She will represent the fair at community events and reign over activities during the 159th Big Butler Fair, June 27 to July 5.
The Mars High School graduate will pursue a degree in nursing. She is the daughter of Jim and Shirley Govan of Mars.
Sara Lang, the daughter of Larry and Carrie Lang of Harrisville, was crowned Butler Fair Princess. Carrie Rugh and Barbara Rugh, both of Butler, were named Butler Fair Ambassadors.
The competition included an essay, interview and a persuasive speech, “Why You Should Come to My Fair,” focused on how the fair impacts the community. Govan earned the award for best speech. Sarah Laughlin, daughter of Ken and Joyce Laughlin of Mount Chestnut, received the award for best essay.
