Anna Mae Sample

Anna Mae Sample, 80, of Saxonburg, formerly of Sarver, passed away Tuesday.

The daughter of the late Shields and Alice (Risch) Macurdy, she was born Nov. 18, 1933.

A graduate of Freeport High School, she married the late Howard D. Sample on Jan. 24, 1953, celebrating 60 years of marriage in 2013.

An award-winning seamstress and quilter, she gave of herself and her gifts to comfort those in need by making charity quilts for hospitals and nursing facilities. As a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Sarver, she was active in the Ladies Guild and various Bible studies. She was a member of Christian Woman's Association and the regional Coordinator for Bible Coffees. She was a charter member of the Peaceful Patches Quilt Club, where she shared her time and talents teaching and sharing the craft of quilting.

She enjoyed spending time with her friends playing cards, swimming at the YMCA and meeting for breakfast or lunch monthly.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband on April 28, 2013; her brothers, Shields (Sonny), Ronald and Leon; and her sister, Geraldine.

She is survived and will be sorely missed by her sons, John (Donna) of Murrells Inlet, S.C., Dennis (Melissa) of Dripping Springs, Texas, Michael (Jeanine) of Butler, and Patrick (Rhonda) of West Chester, Ohio; her 11 grandchildren; and her two great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her brothers, Odley (Emma) Macurdy and Glenn (Jake) (Darlene) Macurdy, and her sister, Sandra (Robert) Stivenson.

She enjoyed traveling and spending time with her family. She crafted many gifts for those she loved, adding her personality and love for all to remember. Those remaining will cherish her memory and ask that all join to celebrate her life as she is reunited with those she loved in the glory of her Lord.

Sample— The friends of Anna Mae Sample, who passed away Tuesday, May 20, 2014, will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Fox Funeral Home, 410 W. Main St., Saxonburg.A funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Sarver, with the Rev. James Neal officiating.
