Helga N. Nallathambi
Helga N. Nallathambi, M.D., 84, of Butler passed away at 9:34 p.m. Sunday at Good Samaritan Hospice at Concordia.
She was born Oct. 10, 1929, in Dhamtari, India, to the late James Govind Ram and Ethel M. Ulrick.
She graduated from Christian Medical College in Ludhiana, India, in 1960, and did her residency at Montefiore Hospital in Pittsburgh from 1968 to 1972. She then worked 23 years as a pathologist at Bashline and United Community Hospital in Grove City, retiring in 2000.
Mrs. Nallathambi served at Mission Hospital in Kachwa, India. She was a teaching fellow at Children's Hospital in London. Mrs. Nallathambi had great concern for the lonely, home-confined people, and was very active in the Stephen Ministry. She was awarded the Good Samaritan of the Year for Butler County for 2003.
Along with her husband, in 2000 she founded the Indo-American Home for Children, which is supported by many residents of Butler County. It helps provide food, clothing, education, and Christian nurturing to orphaned and semi-orphaned children in India.
She was member of Saint Andrews United Presbyterian Church, Butler, where she served as a deacon and elder. Mrs. Nallathambi enjoyed knitting, donating to her church and studying the Bible.
Mrs. Nallathambi is survived by her husband, S. A. Nallathambi, M.D., who she married April 20, 1963; her two brothers, Eric Ram of Delhi, India, and Leslie Ram of Calcutta, India; her sister, Donna Paul of Canada; and her seven nieces and nephews, Namrata (Ram) Andriessens of Brussels, Belgium, Sujata (Ram) Bates of Bangkok, Thailand, Kavita Meneely of Washington, D.C., James Ram of California, Jyoti Ram of California, Shalender Ram of New Delhi, India, and Sanjana Ram of New Delhi, India.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Olga Ram, and her two brothers, Cecil and Denis G. Ram.
Nallathambi — The friends of Helga N. Nallathambi, who passed away Sunday, May 18, 2014, will be received from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday at Saint Andrews United Presbyterian Church, 201 E. Jefferson St., Butler.Memorial services will follow at 11 a.m. with the Pastor Merry Hope Meloy of Saint Andrews United Presbyterian Church, the retired Rev. Gordon K. Powell, the Rev. James Mohr, chaplain of Westminster College, and the Rev.
