Shale gas development workshop set

If you follow the local news, there is rarely a day goes by that Marcellus Shale gas development is not a topic of discussion.

A number of landowners in Butler County hold leases, have been approached about leasing land, or have been approached about rights of way for pipeline development.

Penn State Cooperative Extension will hold a natural gas workshop, “Shale Gas Update, Managing Your Lease, and Pipeline Considerations” on July 1 at the Butler Township Park Building, 468 Duffy Road.

The same program will be offered at two different times to choose from; either 2 to 4 p.m. or 6 to 8 p.m.

The pace of shale gas development may have slowed, but continues on in Pennsylvania and Butler County. This development is affected by infrastructure, price, geology and even geopolitics halfway around the world.

Landowners who are already leased and those unleased might have a lot of decisions ahead of them; leasing, re-leasing, pipeline development, seismic testing, managing leases, and financial decisions all need to be weighed and decided by landowners.

Join Dan Brockett with the Penn State Marcellus Education Team as he discusses the impacts and options landowners may face.

This workshop is intended to help landowners have a better understanding of what is happening now and what options they may wish to consider in the future.

Additional information on this workshop may be found at extension.psu.edu/natural-resources/natural-gas/events. Registration for this program is required and may be done online at the above link or by calling 877-489-1398.

The workshop costs $10 per person. Questions regarding the content of the program may be addressed to Dan Brockett at dlb14@psu.edu or to Carol Loveland at cal24@psu.edu or at 570-320-4429.

This material is submitted by Donna Zang, extension director, and the staff of the Penn State Extension office at the Sunnyview Nursing and Rehabilitation Center complex.
